TMAG's 2020 Black History Celebration Reception honoree Andrew Goudy
Andrew Goudy Brief Biography:
Dr. Andrew Goudy graduated from Trinity Area High School and received abachelor and master's degree in chemistry from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He worked as a chemistry teacher in the Canon-McMillan School District for two years and went on to receive a PhD degree from the University of Pittsburgh. With his PhD, Goudy went on to work as a chemistry professor at West Chester University of Pennsylvania for 24 years was awarded the distinction of professor emeritus for his contributions to the University. Goudy then moved to Delaware and took a position as professor and Chair of the Chemistry Department at Delaware State University. While at Delaware State University he researched hydrogen storage materials. He and his students published numerous articles and obtained a US patent for the discovery of a unique hydrogen storage material. He presented the results of his research findings at international research conferences in countries such as Canada, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Japan, China, Russia, Iceland and England. While at Delaware State University, Goudy also served as Acting Dean of the College of Mathematics Natural Sciences and Technology for a year. He recently retired from Delaware State and moved back to the Washington, PA area where he grew up.Since retirement, Dr. Goudy has served as president of the NAACP’s Washington Branch for a year. Goudy's top priority as NAACP president this year is to help get people registered and out to the polls for the presidential election. Another priority is to help disadvantaged minority students in Washington County receive a good education. He is also serving as president of the Washington PA Rotary club.
